In progress: EP, Dead Dad Society (working title)

The first 22 years of my life were spent doing very little except music. It taught me the foundations of everything I do and know. Whilst I performed music nearly non-stop, I rarely wrote a thing.

My father died quite suddenly in January 2022. Initially, I threw myself into being his executor, slowly closing down the many aspects of his life and getting to grips with the legal responsibility we owe to our next of kin. Whilst I thought I could grasp what was going on, there were times when the grief overwhelmed me and I couldn’t do anything. At those times, I found myself at the piano, words and tunes appearing out of thin air. They turned into seven songs.

The songs document the hardest and most notable parts of the last 9 months. Oddly, some of them are relatively light hearted.

I’m going to try recording them this month. They will remain a document of this time. They certainly helped me get through 2022. So, if for that alone, these songs have already done me a great service.
